Giclees – An Economical Way to Purchase Fine Art

Because of the current economic times, I realize that budgets for original artworks are limited for many corporations as well as individual collectors.  A few  years ago I started printing limited edition giclee images of 31 of my original watercolors, acrylics and oils.  Since I prefer painting large-scale works, this also provides collectors a variety of sizes.  These come in 3 0r 4 sizes of each image with editions of 50 in each size.

A VARIETY OF IMAGES

The images are Oregon fall landscapes, gardens, florals, still lifes and koi and are priced from $120 for 14″ 21″ to $1,040 for 36″ x 72″ giclees.  All of them can be viewed by visiting my  website – joanmetcalf.com.

THE PRINTING PROCESS

Pacific Frame and Gallery in McMinnville, Oregon prints my  giclees.  For those not familiar with this form of reproduction, they explain the process as follows:

“We use archival pigment inks, wide-format Epson printer and archival printing media.  When combining archival media (photo papers, fine art papers and canvases) with pigment inks, the result is a beautiful print that is both fade resistant and of archival quality.”

I chose to have my giclees printed on heavy watercolor paper and have been very happy the the printing results.  The colors in the prints exactly match those in the original paintings.
